              Reviews following this concert

"The Derbyshire Singers were in fine voice on Saturday last, with a wonderful performance of The Messiah.  The combination of The Musical and Amicable Society ensemble, the soloists - Lizzy Humphries, Katherine Nicholson, David de Winter and Tristan Hambleton - and Peter Shepherd on organ were all superbly kept in order by conductor Jonathan Allsopp.  The well-deserved standing ovation spoke volumes about the performance."

"The concert presentation of the oratorio, with its intention of telling a Christian story at an intimate level, was quite simply a triumph. The orchestra, choir and soloists were superb and the sound quality in the church was excellent. The subtle lyricism of this concert perfectly conveyed the emotions which Handel was seeking to evoke."

‘’If you're wanting an outstanding evening of choral music, then you need look no further. This choir is brilliantly rehearsed, highly motivated, and thoroughly professional. They give it their all, resulting in uplifting and hugely enjoyable performances. Go along and see if I'm not right!’’

The final concert of our first season with Jonathan Allsopp as music director was a memorable one. The music of Vierne, Dupré and Poulenc rang through the church, accompanied by Martin Baker at the organ of Metz Cathedral, courtesy of the amazing technology of a digitally sampled organ!   Soprano Harriet Gregory completed the stellar line-up.

Here are just some of the very positive feedback comments we have received.

“Wow! The choir really did lift the roof of All Saints’ Church and yet sang with great sensitivity when required to! It’s so good that the choir are going from strength to strength under your new MD”

“The Derbyshire Singers navigated the complexities of the programme with confidence, making for a rewarding listening experience. Well done, all!”

“Wonderful evening - and the sound from that tiny organ was immense!”

“Harriet was a fab choice for the Poulenc. Deep and rich and powerful”.

A fine line-up of soloists with our new MD, Jonathan Allsopp,  November 2024

Feedback received after our concert November 2024

"We’ve had the pleasure of attending concerts by The Derbyshire Singers over many years, and this one certainly lived up to expectations! The young soloists were exceptional, and the orchestra, with its period instruments, was outstanding. The choir was in excellent voice throughout. It’s clear that your new MD, Jonathan Allsopp, will continue to build on and enhance the choir's well-deserved reputation." JS

"Congratulations to everyone involved in The Derbyshire Singers concert on Saturday! The choir, orchestra, soloists, and conductor all came together to deliver a fine performance and a memorable evening. Well done to all!" CS
