Gavan Ring

One of Ireland's leading young baritones, Gavan Ring studied music at the Schola Cantorum at St Finian's College before reading Education and Music at St Patrick’s College, Dublin. After post-graduate studies to doctorate level at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Gavan also trained at the National Opera Studio in London.

A Young Associate Artist with Opera Theatre Company from 2008-2010, Gavan was a Jerwood Young Artist at the 2012 Glyndebourne Festival Opera. Gavan was awarded second prize at the 2013 Wigmore Hall International Song competition and has won the Southbank Sinfonia Award for Orchestral Song.

Concert and recital highlights include performances of Offenbach's Fantasio under the baton of Sir Mark Elder, Britten's War Requiem with Mark Padmore, Gilbert & Sullivan's HMS Pinafore for the Edinburgh International Festival and a song recital tour of the UK and Ireland with Simon Lepper.

At the 2014 Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Gavan came to the attention of the press when he sang the role of Nardo at the opening night of Mozart's La Finta Giardiniera at short notice prompting Michael Church to write in The Independent “…a coruscating offstage performance by his cover Gavan Ring deservedly stole the show.”

Current opera plans include returning to Opera North to sing the title role of Figaro in Rossini's The Barber of Seville, Guglielmo in Mozart's Così fan Tutte and to Glyndebourne Festival Opera to sing Morales in Bizet's Carmen.

Gavan has been supported by the Glyndebourne New Generation Programme, The Arts Council of Ireland, Help Musicians UK (Richard Van Allan Award) and the Cahersiveen Festival of Music and the Arts.
